Aims and Scope

Being an international journal, China Ocean Engineering (COE) takes its prime function as the integration of new research concepts, equipment, technology, materials and structures and other scientific advances within the field of estuarial, coastal, offshore, and deepwater engineering with particular reference to developments. The Journal is concerned with all engineering aspects involved in the exploration and utilization of ocean resources. Topics regularly covered include research, design and construction of structures (including wharfs, dikes, breakwaters, platforms, mooring systems, etc.), instrumentation/testing (physical model and numerical model), wave dynamics, sedimentation, structural/stress analysis, soil mechanics, and material research.

Submission Declaration

A submission to COE must be the original work of authors which has not been published previously (except in the form of an abstract or as part of a published lecture or academic thesis) and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere. All manuscripts must be submitted in English. If accepted, the manuscript will not be published elsewhere, including electronically in the same form, in English or in any other language, without the consent of the copyright-holder.

Online Submission

Submission to China Ocean Engineering occurs completely online. At https://mc03.manuscriptcentral.com/coe, one can be guided step by step to submit an article through the creation and uploading of the various files.

Manuscripts Preparation

General: Manuscripts should be typewritten, double-spaced on one side of white paper (A4 size) with wide margins. Good quality printouts with a font size of 12 pt are required. Authors should submit an electronic copy of their papers with the final version of the manuscript. The corresponding author should be identified (including Email and postal addresses). The text must be carefully checked in order to avoid correction in the proofs; in case of incorrect presentation, the manuscript might be returned to the author for retyping.

Title: The title should be concise and informative, without abbreviations and formulae.

Abstract: The essential contents of each paper should be recapitulated briefly in an abstract, including the purpose, the principal results and major conclusions of the research.

Key words: Please provide up to three to six subject key words.

Text: It is recommended that the authors proceed as follows: introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, conclusion, acknowledgments and references.

Units: The SI system should be used for all scientific and laboratory data.

Mathematical Symbols and Expressions: Mathematical symbols and expressions should be carefully inserted, with subscripts and superscripts clearly indicated. Authors should avoid ambiguities; for example, make distinction between “zero” and the letter “o”, the number “one” and the letter “l”, etc. Vectors should be indicated in bold. Equations should be numbered consecutively. Mathematical symbols will be set in italic by the printer except for log and sin. Please encircle in the text any symbol to be left in roman.

Figures and Tables: All figures and tables should have appropriate titles, and should be numbered consecutively and placed immediately below their first mention in the text. Authors should send high quality electronic form of all figures that are saved as vector diagrams besides photographs. Tables are required to have a three-line format.

References: All publications cited in the text should be presented in a list of references that are arranged alphabetically by the first author’s name without numbering. Please ensure that every reference cited in the text is also presented in the reference list (and vice versa). The text citation should consist of the author’s family name and year of publication. [e. g. “Zang (2002)” or as shown by an earlier study (Zang, 2002)]. When there are two or more papers by the same author in the same year, the distinguishing suffix (a, b, c, etc.) should be added. In listing references, each one must be complete and in the following form: Journals: author(s), year of publication, title of article, abbreviated title of journal, volume number with issue number in parentheses, cited pages. Books: author(s), year of publication, title of book, edition (if not the first edition), publisher, publishing location, cited pages. Conference proceedings and symposiums: author(s), year of publication, title of article, title of conference/ symposiums, conference location, cited pages. Dissertation: author, year of publication, title of thesis, institution, publishing location.

Proofs

Proofs will be sent to the first author, and should be corrected and returned within one week of receipt. Any queries in proofs should be answered in full.

Research Data Policy

The journal encourages authors, where possible and applicable, to deposit data that support the findings of their research in a public repository. Authors and editors who do not have a preferred repository should consult Springer Nature’s list of repositories and research data policy.

List of Repositories

Research Data Policy

General repositories - for all types of research data - such as figshare and Dryad may also be used.

Datasets that are assigned digital object identifiers (DOIs) by a data repository may be cited in the reference list. Data citations should include the minimum information recommended by DataCite: authors, title, publisher (repository name), identifier.

DataCite

Springer Nature provides a research data policy support service for authors and editors, which can be contacted at

researchdata@springernature.com.

This service provides advice on research data policy compliance and on finding research data repositories. It is independent of journal, book and conference proceedings editorial offices and does not advise on specific manuscripts.
